a second step into the dark

This is the second book in this series and deals with Alice/ Belladonna's next adventures at dark alley. The principal feature is the change between the very normal Alice and her new persona when she's at 'dark alley' where she becomes a very different person. nicely written with a few blips , probably due to the authors native upbringing in Germany, but these are easily ignored. If you like some soft BDSM with intriguing sex scenes then this is for you.

In Book 2 Alice returns to The Dark Club as her new persona Belladonna, looking forward to the possibilities that are awaiting her.

On arriving at the front gate Alice finds an invitation awaiting her from The King of Diamonds asking that she join him, with memories of their first encounter coming back to her Alice makes her way into the club to wait for her date for the evening. Having been told that he hasn’t arrived yet Alice is shown to the booth where she is too wait, she orders herself a drink, settles down and takes in her surroundings.

After waiting for what seems like forever, Alice notices a man enter the club. He looks around the room his eyes searching as if looking for someone, when he catches sight of Alice he starts to make he’s way over to her. Alice knows this isn’t the man she is waiting for but beckons him to join her anyway. He looks familiar to her she has a feeling they have meet before, but where? His name, he tells her is Aquarius, Belladonna she replies looking deep into his eyes. Who, she wonders is this mysterious Aquarius?

When the door to the club opens and she sees the man who enters next, there is no mistaking who he is ‘The King of Diamonds’ has arrived. He looks straight at her and he doesn't look happy that she isn't alone, there’s no harm having some company while waiting for him to arrive, is there! He starts walking towards her keeping eye contact all the way across the room. Full of anticipation of what the evening has in store Alice could feel something stirring deep inside, is this man walking towards her really Mr Scotch and just how unhappy is he that she didn't wait alone!
This series clearly just keeps getting better, this trip into The Dark Alley was more adventurous than the last one and I can’t wait to read book 3.

I think Alice has only just begun to discover exactly what Belladonna is ready to explore.

Habla de una manera divertida acerca del trato entre hombre y mujer en una relacion. Mientras no lo tomes muy en serio, no te ofenderas, porque hay gente que se pierde de aprender porque son testarudos y orgullosos, y dicen que no se identifican...
Hay que entender el mensaje principal del libro, el cual es excelente para saber lidiar con los problemas que surgen cuando se tiene pareja, no para 'arreglar' tu pareja.
A mi me ha ayudado a entender mejor a mi pareja, y tambien al comenzar una discusion, muchas veces las he resuelto antes de que se vuelva mucho peor, no como antes. Me ha ayudado mucho, y muy recomendado.

I had this book since I was a teen.. incredible I never read it before even do I carried for years! After a recent situation and reevaluation of my relationships a friend of mine recommended and made me buy it... I usually, between school and work I don't have time to read, but EVEN at the gym in the mornings while doing cardio I am reading it!... it's been tremendously helpful and understanding for me and my behavior and the best way to be able to walk thru different process internally as well to understand the opposite sex. Its a piece of gold!

Really old book, but full of truth of the false Christians traditions the church has chased after and hasn't realized that a lot of it is based on paganism that was added to the Bible to get Pagans in the "church" but, boy were we wrong!

Well researched!

As someone who would like to lose a few pounds I was intrigued by Eugene Wells' provocative book The Decaf Diet: Is Caffeine Making You Fat? I admit to being a little skeptical as I had never heard that caffeine could negatively affect one's weight. However, after reading this well documented book (it includes over 70 pages of reference notes!) I am convinced.

According to Wells: "caffeine is at odds with weight loss because it decreases our feelings of satiety, contributes to overeating, and also decreases our energy expenditure while at rest." Nor is weight gain the only side effect, caffeine also:

* Reduces muscle mass;
* Slows the metabolism;
* Elevates stress levels;
* Elevates insulin levels; and
* Negatively impacts thyroid function.

And if you think that being a tea drinker is any better -- think again! Wells states that regular tea is, in fact, even worse than coffee. Apparently, caffeinated tea (including green tea) contains large amounts of fluoride which can alter thyroid function.

After laying out the case why caffeine is harmful, Wells includes three decaf plans: gradual reduction; cold turkey; and optimal caffeine use (for those who want to continue to caffeine in moderation). As a caffeine lover, I paid particular attention to the last plan. Nowadays, I still have my morning java break, but I do, more often than not, skip the second cup. This, I think, is a start!

The Decaf Diet is a well researched book that may just convince you to grab a nice cup of herbal tea instead of the usual coffee and a muffin.

Explains how caffeine can make you fat and sick

This is a very good book about caffeine and how it can make you gain weight and especially inflammatory fat in the belly through its effect on cortisol and insulin, two very important hormones. The author explains how caffeine causes insulin resistance, elevates stress hormones which can have a catabolic effect, affects leptin negatively and elevates insulin and increases hunger leading to overeating and weight gain and its associated problems. The author also discusses caffeine addictiveness and the withdrawal syndrome, which keeps people hooked.

He makes recommendations on how to quit, beverage substitutes etc and includes an optimal use strategy for people who do not want to quit or want to just cut down. This includes eating fruits and vegetables for their cortisol blunting vitamin c and not eating sugar or other things with coffee and keeping intake low. I'm not so sure how effective this particular advice is, in that I was never able to keep a reduced caffeine intake for long, as it would slowly creep up. I always took coffee solo (and have read the opposite advice that one should always include starchy food with coffee to lessen its hypoglycemic effect) because it gave a better buzz. I still had the belly issue and had difficulty controlling intake and other problems while getting as low as 6 ounces of coffee daily with no other sources of caffeine (and had terrible withdrawal from this amount).

I think the book "caffeine blues" suggestion to and emphasis on quitting completely is more realistic as the tendency is to consume more and it becomes a struggle and you will still have negative effects from the lesser amount and you are essentially maintaining the addiction. That said, this book goes into great detail and really makes its case that caffeine is a major cause of weight gain and a big part of the obesity epidemic. It's a good book full of facts, links to references and studies and compliments books like "Caffeine Blues" and "Why Diet and Exercise Fail" very well.

Excellent information

I really truly did not want to read that coffee could make you fat but believe the author has done his homework. I started drinking iced coffees nearly every day with a small amount of almond milk and stevia and gained weight for the first time in years. I quit drinking coffee and the weight dropped back off. This book explained why and did so in a way that was easy to understand.

From the moment I picked up this book, I was led deep into a dark crypt of fantastical wonderment! Amy Gray has really captured the essence of what is like (or could be like!) to be a newly-born denizen of the undead; this book is a rollickingly great read, and while both humorous and conversational in its tone, is almost encyclopaedic in its knowledge of creatures of the night. While squarely aimed at younger, vampire-mad readers, the beauty of this book is that it never for a second talks down to its audience - it speaks with an earnestness that only transports you further into its dark, magical world - and I can thoroughly recommend this to anyone who has even a fleeting interest in vampires. It is clear that the author knows her subject well, and 'How to Be a Vampire' is chock-full of ancient vampiric lore, whilst giving a nod to modern-day vampire stories such as Buffy and Twilight. Both informative and whimsical, this guide will have you longing to be transformed into a blood-sucker, and is very much a book anyone can sink their teeth into.

This book is written in a "fang-in-cheek" fashion, a guide for the newly-turned vampire. The artwork and photography are superb. The writing focuses mainly on the emo and goth-lifestyles, catering specifically to the alternative crowd who identifies as vampires. There are sections on the history of the vampire and the role of the vampire in film and books. A bit of a warning. The "real" vampire of folklore is pretty much absent or should I write that the emphasis is on the alluring, la femme fatale and l'homme fatale version of the vampire.. The book is a light read.

All knowledge starts with the basics, this is a great start!

I like to sit back and knock out a chapter every time I hear Trump or really any fool speak. Its well written and entertaining. I will say its fun to read about the understanding of Pluto when he wrote it and what we know now. This shouldn't be a negative and I'm sure Mr Bill Bryson would love to update everything as new information becomes available. That isn't realistic and the book is still fantastic even if its a bit old.

I just finished reading Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything (2003) - absolutely loved it. It is an amazingly well-researched and very accessible/entertaining history of science and scientific knowledge from the creation of the universe to bacteria to an understandable explanation of quantum physics, including all the scientists (famous and the forgotten majority) who got us to where we are today, how we know what we know, and so much that we still don't know. As a non-fiction piece, it is very different from Bryson's more famous fiction writing, such as A Walk In The Woods.

Every couple pages have amazing mind-blowing facts that I enjoyed digesting slowly as I read it before bed over the course of a year. For example, Ice Ages. Experts believe that we're in a cycle of ice ages and have about 20 more - each lasting 10,000-100,000 years - before the Earth will remain steadily warm. The entire rise of modern civilization has happened in the last 10,000 years in a rare, unusually long, warm inter-glacial period - the Holocene. Geological evidence also suggests that the entire planet, including the equator, were at one point iced over, except for possible small pockets of open water around volcanic activity.

Bryson covers MANY other topics and while you could research them all yourself, Bryon's value-added is having them all in one manageable volume that highlights the key debates and disagreements between experts on every topic examined. So it is also a great inspiration and starting point for your own further research on topics that interest you.

The book as a whole has given me profound new perspectives on time, space, life, and scientific knowledge in general and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Smart, Witty, Enjoyable- A must read

A phenomenal book. Like the title suggests, it touches upon a little of everything. As someone with a broad interest in almost all subjects, reading this book was an absolute joy and Bill Bryson's delightful wit is an added bonus. He has a way of making the driest of subjects seem interesting and you find yourself flipping page after page, totally absorbed by the topics he presents.

LOVE this book- do yourself a favor and get it!
