It's a good start

I bought the Kindle version of this book for a class that I am taking as part of my masters degree. It has a lot of features that I like such as being able to search and add easy to find notes. The thing that I don't like about it is that the Kindle version does not have everything that the hard copy does. The Kindle version also doesn't have page numbers. When the professor references a certain page in an assignment, it makes it very difficult to know if I am referencing the right material. For the most part I like using a Kindle version but they need to do a better job to make sure that everything is included from the original version.

As far as the actual content of the book is concerned, it is fairly informative. I think the author could do a better job explaining some topics. A lot of the phrasing could be reworded to make the book easier to read.

disorganized mess

While the author has a huge amount of knowledge on the subject matter he clearly has no idea how to create a textbook that flow seemlessly from one topic to the next. I spent all semester jumping back and forth between subjects and topics. The case studies are dull and dry, and for the most part outdated.

Good if You Can Suffer Through

Just finished a class taught from this book and I did NOT love trying to learn from it! Ettlie knows TONS but can't seem to organize his thoughts or stay on topic! Clue: he does repeat the same thoughts throughout the book so occasionally you can use later passages to decipher others. He even has two sections by the same name in one chapter - I am not kidding! I don't even think his editor could make it through this one. Lots of great ideas in there but plan many hours reading every single reference to try to figure out his points. That is IF you can find the references, some are quite old and many are flat WRONG, or not completely identified, especially in Chapter 9. Sadly, his reviews as a prof sound about the same. Smart guy but proceed with caution!

This is a good book with a wealth of information. It is very helpful, very detailed and while I think it helps, I think the Trigger Point Therapy is a good book to start with. If I had to choose between the two I would get the Trigger Point Therapy book first. I think that the FS Workbook can be a bit overwhelming if you have not read the Trigger Point book first. Of course everyone is different. I noticed others saying that this book was hard to get through. I found it hard to narrow down which trigger points in which muscles might be giving me problems so I looked in the Trigger Point book first then used this book for more detail into each muscle and possible trigger point to work on. I am glad I have both books.

Best money I ever spent!!

I've recently been diagnosed with frozen shoulder. My orthopedist told me that in order to get relief I should do some muscle exercises at home but in order to really see improvement it would be best to see a physical therapist 3-4 TIMES A WEEK!!! For those readers who don't know, physical therapy sessions are very expensive. I did a search on frozen shoulder and I found The Frozen Shoulder Workbook. I started self treating at home with the massage techniques it discussed. My shoulder is sooo much better. I've regained a lot of the mobility and range of motion that I lost in only a short amount of time. My orthopedist said it may take 1-2 years to get all of my range of motion back but the way my progress is going I don't think it will be nearly that long at all. YEA!!! Left shoulder pain started in November 2011 after a flu shot. Within a few days when I went to the gym the left side was 30%+ weaker than the right side. It got so bad that I couldn't even walk to the mailbox without severe pain. I went to the orthopedic doc and was diagnosed with frozen shoulder. I was told to expect a year to two year long ordeal, getting worse until completely frozen, then gradually getting better. I found that massage helped give relief but only for half a day. My massage therapist recommended that I use a theracane to treat myself more often. When looking for one on Amazon I ran across the frozen shoulder workbook. While it did not completely cure me as some have claimed, it gave me tremendous improvement and my shoulder never froze (in fact it was back to 100% motion in 3 months). At 4 weeks I was back in the gym and running (although still with weakness) I still have to work on it every day, and I still show some signs of capsulitis, but I am regaining my strength and it doesn't interfere with my everyday life. Bottom line...I recovered enough within a few weeks to be able to live normally (although with some weakness and mild pain), and continue to make progress with no restrictions in motion. My orthopedic said I was an "unusual" case.

A great book about the Toyota Way. If you read between the lines it's really not about the 14 principles but about people. People are a powerful resource. Treat people right, teach people to think, teach people to care, teach people to be passionate about what they believe in -- do all these things and you can build a great company. Oh, you may build a few cars along the way, too.

Learn how to use JIDOKA, POKA-YOKE, HEIJUNKA, 6S, process flow mapping, brainstorming, Gemba! All of these concepts will help you & your organization with Lean and Six Sigma. Remember to question the status quo. Just because it's always done that way, does not mean it's the right or most efficient way. Apply PDCA - plan, do, check act. Oh and read this book!

  About the Author
  

  Jack Moehle, Ph.D., is the T.Y. and Margaret Lin Professor of Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He was founding director of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center. Dr. Moehle played a leading role on several teams to develop professional guidance and design standards, including Improved Seismic Design Guidelines for California Highway Bridges (ATC 32); Guidelines for Evaluation and Repair of Masonry and Concrete Walls (FEMA 306); Guidelines for Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings (FEMA 273); Development of Next-Generation Performance-Based Seismic Design Procedures for New and Existing Buildings (FEMA P-58); and Guidelines for Performance-Based Seismic Design of Tall Buildings (Tall Buildings Initiative, PEER). He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, an Honorary Member of the Structural Engineers Association of California, and an elected Member of the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Moehle chaired the seismic provisions subcommittee of the ACI 318 Building Code Committee from 1995 to 2014, and is the chair of the ACI 318 Building Code Committee for the 2014-2020 code cycle.

  I think this is the best book about the subject. Very well written and interesting. The author exposes the new knowledge about the behavior of reinforced concrete subjected to earthquake solicitation.

  I am reading the book, and enjoying it…it is really a great collection of all you need to know about seismic design and performance of RC buildings. Strongly recommend it to all structural earthquake engineers.

  This textbook would be great for a graduate course in Advanced Reinforced Concrete Design ...

  This textbook fills an important need by assembling and organizing in one place key information on the seismic design of reinforced concrete buildings. I have only read one chapter so far (Chapter 4 on confined concrete), but I have already used the text to improve my lectures.
  
  This textbook would be great for a graduate course in Advanced Reinforced Concrete Design or Structural Seismic Design. The textbook would also be a great addition to any structural engineer's personal collection, since it is so hard to keep up to speed on recent advances and changes in practice. For example, the text has separate chapters on beam-column connections, slab-column connections, special moment frames and special structural walls.
