Un libro muy sensual y muy er�tico, pero con mucho m�s que ofrecer.

No soy muy aficionado a las novelas rom�ntico-er�ticas. Y qued� bastante desenga�ado del genero con la lectura de "50 sombras de Grey" de E. L. James por lo que dud� un poco cuando me recomendaron este libro. Debo decir que he quedado gratamente impresionado. Afortunamente los defectos que originaron mi rechazo a la trilog�a de Grey no se repiten en Paulette Mestre.
Para empezar, aqu� tenemos una trama m�s interesante y con varios giros de acontecimientos, a diferencia de la historia lineal que ofrece James centrada b�sicamente en el despertar er�tico de la se�orita Steele, Un argumento algo lineal y sin sorpresas narrativas. Por contra, “La tentaci�n” es una historia compleja que se va devanando poco a poco y que nos ofrece capas y m�s capas, hasta el mismo final del libro. No ahond� m�s en ese tema para no caer en spoilers.
Ni que decir que el personaje femenino principal es fascinante y provocativo, en cierto modo lleva la historia y no se deja llevar por la historia, como ocurre con otras obras que act�an con la convenci�n comercial del g�nero er�tico. Es una chica atrevida, arriesgada, a veces quiz�s irresponsable. Sus acciones la perfilan ante el lector. El personaje le sale redondo a la autora.
Y si nos quedamos a examinar solamente lo estrictamente relacionado con el tema erotico, la autora Mestre se atreve a m�s. Si se busca un libro que encienda la hoguera sensual y er�tica, pues este libro es el adecuado. A m� me dejo particularmente impresionado una escena, casi al final de la obra en cierto restaurante, muy candente. Es el plato fuerte de la narraci�n. De nuevo, no quiero caer en spoilers, pero s� asegur� que esta escena, y otras, dejar�n satisfecho al p�blico amante de la ficci�n er�tica.
Pero como ya dije, “La tentaci�n” es m�s que una novela rom�ntico er�tica, es una historia de traiciones, de decepciones, y tambi�n tiene un fuerte componente de intriga y misterio. As� que no ser�a justo compararla con otra obra existente en el mercado. Es una obra de ficci�n, propiamente caracterizada.
Debo se�alar que la autora destaca en la narraci�n, sabe llevar la historia y ha construido un libro que empieza bien y termina bien, el pr�logo es realmente impactante y el ep�logo nos invita a querer m�s; la situaci�n final me dej� con la expectativa y las ganas de saber m�s de los personajes y la historia que viene con ellos. Ha sido un grato inicio de saga y creo que leer� las dem�s novelas que la componen.
No hay que olvidar el estilo limpio y cuidado de Mestre, no encontraremos aqu� los lugares comunes y las constantes repeticiones de frases que en la obra de James son frecuentes (no se me olvida las veces que la frase “la diosa que llevo dentro” se repite en James), Mestre ha hecho la tarea b�sica de un escritor, cuidar que la narraci�n fluya sin tropiezos sin errores en la redacci�n.
Esperemos que esta autora nueva siga escribiendo, talento no le falta y tiene pasi�n por la narraci�n.

Una tentacion entretenida

Pens� por el t�tulo que este ser�a un libro de uno de los cuatro ‘Brothers” pero no, esta es la historia de Claire y Marco. Una primera parte que se queda sin un final y sin aclarar todos los secretos del protagonista. Me parece que tiene algunas similitudes a Extasis de Maya Banks pero (siempre hay un pero) la escritora de forma magistral nos va dando a cuenta gotas los secretos de la historia sorprendi�ndonos a cada paso. Lo que mantiene al lector entretenido y queriendo saber m�s. Inclusive la verdadera personalidad de Marco no parece hasta casi la mitad de la historia y en todo este tiempo la escritora supo ocultarlo muy bien para sorprender al lector. A pesar de ser la t�pica historia del hombre controlador obsesionado con la chica sumisa la escritora integra en la historia elementos sorpresa que la hacen diferente.
A pesar que la escritora es muy buena, buena narrativa y coherente me pareci� que algunos casos las descripciones de lugares, ropa o comida fueron muy prolongadas cuando realmente queremos saber de los protagonistas. El erotismo est� bien trabajado y no lo encontr� excesivo. Inclusive la primera escena que sorprende por la diferencia de edades, muy bien lograda. Tiene muchos errores tipogr�ficos e inclusive intercambio de nombres. Hay un personaje que lo llaman Alfonso y Alfredo en la misma parte. Deben revisarla. Al final tengo que decir que es interesante, entretenida, si le gustan estas historias llenas de erotismo con un protagonista torturado por un pasado que no sabemos esta es su historia.

About the Author

John Hemming was Director of the Royal Geographic Society in London from 1975 to 1996. He has travelled throughout Peru and much of Amazonia on a series of surveying and environmental research expeditions, often in unexplored forests. He has probably visited more indigenous tribes than any other non-Brazilian, including four at the time of their first contact. In addition to The Conquest of the Incas, his sixteen books include Monuments of the Incas, The Search for El Dorado, a three-volume history of Brazil’s indigenous peoples (Red Gold, Amazon Frontier, Die If You Must) and Tree of Rivers. For this work, Peru honored him with the El Sol del Per� award and the grand cross of the Order of Merit; Brazil gave him the Order of the Southern Cross; and Britain, the Order of St Michael and St George. He has a D. Litt doctorate from Oxford, and other honorary doctorates and fellowships. John Hemming is also chairman of a company publishing trade magazines and organizing trade exhibitions, and a trustee of various charities.

The Definitive History

"Conquest of the Incas" is almost unquestionably the best book ever written about the 16th century Spanish conquest of the Inca empire in Peru and neighboring countries. It replaces Prescott's famous "Conquest of Peru," a brilliant piece of research and writing but one compiled at a Boston desk from archival materials. Hemming has much more personal familiarity with the subject and a much greater range of sources to draw on.

How it was that conquistador Francisco Pizarro and less than 200 men were able to overthrow the Inca empire of 15 million subjects is one of the great tales of history. "Conquest" details that struggle for power in convincing and fascinating detail, focusing on Pizarro and his brothers who were all brutal, deceitful, and courageous. Hemming gives almost equal time to the Incas and their leaders as they struggle against or accommodate themselves to Spanish rule. (As will be evident to contemporary visitors to Cuzco and Andean Peru, the Spanish conquest never penetrated very deeply. The Inca culture and language still live; Pizarro is despised by most Peruvians and the last Inca, Tupac Amaru, is a national hero.)

The story of the conquest has been romanticized in the classic play "Royal Hunt of the Sun" which is well worth seeing for its portraits of Pizarro and the Inca emperor Atahualpa. But the capture and murder of Atahualpa is only the beginning of the story. What followed was a 40 year struggle between Inca and Spaniard (and among Spaniards) for control of Peru that ended with the beheading of Tupac Amaru. The last chapter of the book moves into modern times as it describes the search for the lost Inca province of Vilcabamba and the discovery of Machu Pichu in the early 20th century. The mystery of the last Incas and their jungle retreats has fascinated writers and achaelogists until the present day -- as has the Inca empire, perhaps the most enigmatic of history.

"Conquest of the Incas" was published in 1970. Were it to be revised today more emphasis would probably be placed on the role of smallpox epidemics that disrupted the Inca empire and made it ripe for conquest. But that's about the only deficiency I find in the book. It's one of the best histories ever written -- so good that it has found few imitators.

Good Read

I began this book just before my visit to Peru and read it along the way - a great way to prepare for the trip and to absorb more during an incredibly educational experience. It really was a key part of my enjoyment of the trip, because I was able to glean more from our various guides and better appreciate the ruins and spanish buildings, particularly in and around Cuzco. The book is an interesting read, but note that the fall of the Incas is essentially completed during the first 100 pages - a good thing if you want a thorough understanding of the history in a very brief time, a bad thing if you were looking for more detail. (I actually liked this aspect of the book.) Another key to this book's success is Hemming's ability to convey who was actually writing the history since of course the goings on would be viewed and recorded differently by spanish conquistadors vs. religious types, to say nothing of the difference of opinion about what happened between the Spanish and the native quechuas. He does a good job of illustrating the different views and allowing the reader to come to their own conclusions about what may have actually happened. I found out about this book from Lonely Planet-the key travel book for the area-and I agree with them and thoroughly recommend it. No trip to Peru should be taken without it!

Gripping account of an unequal struggle between peoples

This is a readable and authoritative account of Pizarro's conquest of Peru and search for El Dorado in the 1530's: a must-read backgrounder for those who plan a trip to Cuzco and Machu Picchu and an astounding account of war strategies and incredible upsets in a hostile mountain terrain between unequal forces with vastly different technologies. It gives real understanding into present-day relationships between the Spanish and native peoples in South America. I couldn't put it down.

The author also serves on the adjunct faculty of Rockland Community College (NY) and has lectured extensively on vibration analysis in fixes and rotary aircraft, as well as on rotating machinery design and application in the power, petro-chemical and paper industries. In addition to holding several U.S. patents and a P.E. license in New York State, Goldman serves on the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing's Vibration Analysis P.Q. Committee.

Completely fails to live up to its name - avoid, avoid!

I cannot begin to imagine what other reviewers of this book are talking about - the book is called How to make people laugh - but it explains nothing of the sort at all. You can read it in half an hour or less and will have gained nothing. I can only think the reviews must be by people trying to sell each other's books by posting 5 star ratings for incredibly weak content books to make easy money. I say this very reluctantly but the book is that weak it's absurd. I get the impression the person writing it is a decent and may be well intended individual but the book should not be called 'how to make people laugh' if it simply doesn't tackle that challenging subject in any way shape or form. I promptly returned it for a full refund and caution other viewers of the book to steer well clear lest you realize how you've wasted $2.99 and missed the 7-day window for a refund on an utter 'dud'.

An Interesting Fun Read

This book is not filled with funny jokes. That is not what the book is all about.

You'll find a few good tips for comedian wanna-be's, but the book is more about helping you improve your social skills using humor. According to the author, being funny is a talent and skill that can be developed. I agree that having a reputation for being funny is much better than being a boring "deadpan."

A tip that helped me is in chapter two. It says a funny person seizes the moment without over thinking the circumstances. I find myself holding back being spontaneous sometimes because I am not sure it will be funny or appropriate. It's okay to risk telling a joke or saying something that bombs. It happens to everybody.

The author caught my attention when he referenced comedian George Carlin's use of timing and fast paced delivery in his notorious seven words you can't say on television routine. I have been a George Carlin fan for years.

If you are looking to make more friends and improve your social life, this book is for you. The book is a quick easy read.

Learn to make people laugh

Honestly, I already believe that I am pretty funny but I wanted to check out this book to see how I can take my jokes to the next level and get more laughs when I am talking to people. Making people laugh in everyday conversation I feel like is a skill and not something that everyone has. But, lucky for them there is this book, that can teach you how to make people laugh. I learned a lot from this author, who seems very knowledgeable on the subject. The most helpful section in my opinion was the part on timing a delivery. This is extremely important when telling jokes because if the timing isn't right, the joke won't land. Overall, this was a very helpful guide to being more funny and I recommend it to those who are looking to make people laugh.
